Quick answer: A lifted or leveled truck needs a little more attention than a stock one, but nothing exotic. The big ones: re-torque the suspension bolts after the first few hundred miles, get an alignment check once a year or after any hard hit, rotate the larger tires a bit more often, and keep an eye on the parts a lift works harder — ball joints, wheel bearings, and CV axles. Stay on top of those and a good build lasts for years.
People spend real money on a build and then wonder what it actually takes to keep it right. Here is the honest maintenance list, in plain order of importance.
1. The First Re-Torque (Do Not Skip This)
Suspension bolts are torqued at ride height during the install, and after the springs and bushings settle over the first few hundred miles, some of them need to come back to spec. This is the single most important thing on the list, and it is quick.
If you notice a clunk over bumps in the first few weeks, that is usually settled hardware, not a failure — but it is the signal to bring it in. We cover the break-in window in the first 500 miles after a lift.
2. Alignment — Yearly and After Any Hard Hit
Your alignment was set right when the lift went on, but big potholes, curbs, and time move it. On a lifted truck, bad alignment shows up as inside-edge tire wear and a truck that wanders — and you are wearing bigger, more expensive tires.
Get it checked once a year, and any time you take a serious hit or notice a pull. It is cheap insurance against a set of tires. More on why in alignment after a lift or leveling kit.

3. Tire Rotation and Pressure
Bigger, heavier tires want to be rotated a little more often — every 5,000 miles or so is a good habit. Keep the pressures where they should be for the tire, not the factory door sticker if you have gone up in size, and check them with the seasons since temperature swings move them.
4. The Parts a Lift Works Harder
A lift changes suspension geometry and bigger tires add unsprung weight, so a few components see more load than stock. None of these are guaranteed problems — they are just the things worth watching:
Ball joints and tie rods. Aftermarket upper control arms with uniballs or heim joints need periodic service and are noisier than rubber; factory joints work at a different angle after a lift. Have them checked at oil-change intervals.
Wheel bearings. Larger tires load bearings harder. A hum that changes with speed or when you sway the truck is the classic sign.
CV axles and driveline. On independent front suspension trucks, lifting changes CV angles; on lifted rears, driveline angle matters. A vibration that grows with speed is worth diagnosing early. We break the symptoms down in vibration, wobble or clunk after a lift.
5. Keep the Hardware Clean and Tight
If you actually use the truck off-road, rinse the underside after mud and check for anything loosened by the abuse. Even for a street truck, a quick look at the suspension bolts at each oil change catches the rare loose one before it becomes a rattle.
What This Costs You
Honestly, not much. The first re-torque is quick, an annual alignment is $150, and the rest folds into normal oil-change-interval checks. The point of the list is not constant spending — it is catching the cheap fix before it becomes an expensive one. A worn bearing caught early is a bearing; ignored, it can take the hub with it.
