Lifting a diesel is not the same job as lifting a half-ton gas truck. The kits are different, the spring rates are different, and the margin for a sloppy install is a lot smaller.
At Lift Pro Customs in Willis, TX, we install lift kits and leveling kits on diesel trucks — Ford Power Stroke, Ram Cummins, and Chevy/GMC Duramax — set up for how these trucks actually get used: towing, hauling, and work.
What’s Different About Lifting a Diesel
A diesel engine puts significantly more weight over the front axle than a gas engine in the same truck. That extra front-end weight changes kit and coil selection on HD trucks.
Springs and coils have to be rated for the diesel front end — a kit spec’d for a gas truck can sit nose-low under a diesel. Add a heavy bumper or a winch and the spring rate conversation matters even more, which is why we confirm your exact configuration before anything gets ordered.
The good news: brands like BDS, Carli, Cognito, and Zone build diesel-specific applications, and Fox, King, and Bilstein shocks are available valved for HD weight. The right parts exist — the job is matching them to your truck.
Leveling vs Lift on a 2500 or 3500
On HD trucks this decision matters more than on half-tons, because most diesels still have to work.
A leveling kit raises the front around 2 to 3 inches, keeps the setup practical, and stays closest to stock for towing. Our F-250 & Ram 2500 leveling kit guide covers the details — a 35" tire is very common on a leveled HD truck and typically fits well.
A lift kit buys you more height, more clearance, and room for bigger tires. The trade-off is that ride quality and towing manners now depend heavily on kit quality and installation detail — exactly where cheap kits and rushed installs show up worst on a heavy truck.
What Diesel Lift and Leveling Installs Cost
Pricing at our shop is tiered by height, parts and labor included:
- Leveling kits (0–2.5") — from $550 installed with alignment; HD setups typically run $600–$1,200
- 2.5"–3.5" lift kits — from $1,100
- 3.5"–6" lift kits — from $2,200
- 6"+ lift kits — from $2,200 and up depending on the kit
Tires add roughly $1,250 for 33s, $1,500 for 35s, and $1,750 for 37s and up, with wheels from $1,750 and complete packages from $3,000. Acima lease-to-own is available - as little as $10 to start, with a 90-day early purchase option (action required; see agreement) - plus Affirm, Sunbit, Snap, and Kafene.
Alignment Matters More Under Diesel Weight
Every install at our shop includes an alignment, and on a diesel it is non-negotiable.
The extra weight over the front axle means alignment errors show up faster and cost more. Skipping alignment or using incorrect components leads to uneven tire wear and poor ride quality — and on 35" load-rated tires, chewing up a set early is an expensive mistake.
Tire Load Ratings If You Tow
Bigger tires on a diesel still have to carry diesel loads. If you tow or haul, the tire’s load rating matters as much as its size — an aggressive tire rated below what your truck carries is the wrong tire, no matter how good it looks.
When we build a towing diesel, we spec tires with the load rating to match, so the truck is still a truck when the trailer gets hooked up.
After the Install
A lifted HD truck deserves a short shakedown period. Our guide to the first 500 miles after a lift covers what to watch for while everything settles in — worth a read before your install date.
