How long you will be without the truck

The right height depends on what the truck does all week - daily driving, towing, or trails - and what tire you want to run. A 2-3.5" lift with 33s or 35s covers most builds; 6 inches looks great but changes the driving experience more than people expect. What install day actually looks like
You drop the truck off in the morning. The suspension comes apart, the kit goes in with every fastener torqued to the factory spec sheet - not "gutentight" - and anything the height change affects gets addressed: brake line brackets, sway bar links, bump stops. While the front end is open we inspect ball joints, tie rods, and bushings, because that is the cheapest moment you will ever have to fix a worn part. Then the truck goes on the alignment rack, gets dialed to spec, and gets road-tested on the highway before we call you.
That last step matters more on lifted trucks than stock ones. A vibration or a pull that only shows up at 65 mph should be caught by the shop, on the shop's time - not by you on the drive home.
Doing wheels and tires at the same time?
If bigger tires are part of the plan - and for most people they are the whole point - it is worth quoting the lift, wheels, and tires as one job. The lift height determines what tire fits, the tire width determines what wheel offset works, and getting those specs matched before ordering is how you avoid the rubbing and trimming stories. It also means one alignment and one visit instead of two of each. Wheels start around $1,750 a set and tires around $1,250 at our shop, and we spec the whole combination against your exact truck before anything is ordered.
Red flags when you are shop-hunting
"Alignment not included." Every lift changes alignment geometry. If it is not in the quote, your real price is $100-150 higher.
No brand names. A shop that will not say what kits it installs is buying whatever is cheapest that week.
No inspection talk. The front end is apart during a lift - a good shop checks ball joints and tie rods while it is in there and tells you what it found.
Vague timelines. "A few days, maybe a week" for a 3-inch lift means your truck sits behind other work.
