Leveling Kit Before and After: What Actually Changes

Every truck leaves the factory sitting nose-down. That forward rake is built in for towing, but on an empty truck it just looks like the front end gave up.

A leveling kit fixes exactly that — and if you're wondering whether it's worth it, the before-and-after is the whole argument. Here's what actually changes, from a shop that levels trucks every week in Willis, TX.


Before: The Factory Rake

Measure from the ground to the fender lip on a stock truck and you'll usually find the front sitting 1 to 2.5 inches lower than the rear. Add stock-size highway tires tucked deep in the wheel wells and you get the look every leveled truck is escaping: nose down, wheels lost in the fenders.


After: Level Stance, Room For Tires

A leveling kit raises only the front, typically 2 to 2.5 inches — just enough to bring the nose up even with the rear.

Two things change visibly:

The stance. The truck sits flat. That alone transforms how it reads from the side — compare any leveled truck to its stock twin in a parking lot and the stock one looks like it's braking hard.

The tire room. Lifting the front opens the wheel well enough for a real tire. On most half-tons, a level clears 33s easily and 35s with the right wheel offset — that's where most of the visual change actually comes from.

What Doesn't Change

This is the part people appreciate after living with it:

The rear stays factory. Same bed height, same payload, same hitch height for the boat or trailer.

The ride barely changes. A quality strut-style level keeps close to factory ride quality — the difference between spacer and strut kits matters here.

Your garage still fits. Two inches up front rarely breaks a garage-door clearance the way a full lift can.

Fuel economy takes a small hit only if you go up in tire size — here's the honest math on that.
